The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday assured Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte that there will be a swift ruling on the four disqualification cases filed against him in order to give time for the case to be brought to the Supreme Court.
“Our objective is to settle this at the best possible time so it can be elevated to the Supreme Court,” Commissioner Rowena Guanzon told the Inquirer in Filipino.
“To be fair to the candidate, the case should be resolved immediately,” she added.
The disqualification cases alleged that Duterte is not a bona fide candidate to substitute for former Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) presidential bet Martin Diño since the latter’s certificate of candidacy for President was materially defective and is, therefore, invalid.
A hearing was set by the Comelec First Division on Tuesday for all the cases against the mayor. Tina G. Santos
