Another award-winning year for the Inquirer
THE INQUIRER received 27 awards in 2015, including prestigious Journalist of the Year awards from Society of Publishers in Asia and Metrobank Foundation for veteran reporter Nancy Carvajal, who broke the story on the P10-billion pork barrel scam allegedly masterminded by businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles and which involved several lawmakers.
The Inquirer’s coverage of Pope Francis’ visit in January also won Best Coverage at the Catholic Mass Media Awards last month—one of five awards won by the Inquirer that night. Business reporters Doris Dumlao-Abadilla and Paolo Montecillo were also cited for their beat reportage by the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines awards in October.
The Inquirer was also recognized by international award-giving bodies in 2015. Apart from hailing Carvajal as Journalist of the Year, SOPA also cited award-winning photojournalist Edwin Bacasmas for Excellence in News Photography, while the Inquirer’s Snoops program won the Silver Award for Enduring Excellence at the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-Ifra) Young Reader Prize competition.
In November, the Inquirer was elevated to the Hall of Fame by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Makatao Awards for being named Newspaper of the Year for five straight years.
