LUCENA CITY – About 12 persons were injured when two buses belonging to the same company, DLTB Bus, collided head on along the Maharlika Highway in Sariaya town in Quezon province predawn on Thursday.
A DLTB bus (UYD 431) bound for Quezon City had just overtaken another vehicle when it collided with the oncoming Bicol-bound DLTB bus (TYX 910), in Barangay Sto. Cristo at around 12:30 a.m., said a report released by the Quezon police provincial headquarter-public information office.
The collision injured nine passengers of the Quezon City-bound bus while three were hurt in the Bicol-bound bus, the report said.
Rescuers from the Sariaya disaster risk reduction and management council brought the victims to the Lucena United Doctor Hospital in Lucena City for treatment.
The report said only four of the injured passengers – Michael Nano, Arlyn Jalina and siblings Oliva Lopez and Seminiano Lopez – remained confined at the hospital.
The bus drivers – Antonio Matias of the Quezon City-bound bus and Arman Baay of the other bus – were in custody of the Sariaya police, the report said.
This was the second road mishap to happen in this section of the Maharlika Highway in just a week.
