LINGAYEN, Pangasinan–One of the men seen firing guns on New Year’s Eve in a viral video circulated online is from Sison town but the incident did not happen in Pangasinan province, police said on Wednesday.
But Senior Supt. Rollie Saltat, provincial police director, said Edgardo Quinit, who was earlier identified in the video, left Barangay Pindangan in Sison in 1999 and migrated to Guam.
“So, the indiscriminate firing did not take place in our province,” Saltat said.
On Tuesday, the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) said Quinit uploaded the video on Facebook on Jan. 1.
In a report, Senior Supt. Arnel Escobal, PNP-ACG officer-in-charge, said the people in the video were talking in Ilocano, noting that a phrase went, “this is how we celebrate New Year in Guam.”
Saltat said a police team, which conducted an ocular inspection in Barangay Pindangan, did not find a place in the village similar to the one shown in the video.
“Also, the barangay captain was surprised because no firing of guns took place in his village on New Year’s Eve. Otherwise, he would have immediately known about it,” Saltat said.
Supt. Ferdinand de Asis, provincial police spokesperson, said Quinit was arrested in Guam in 2006 for illegal discharge of firearm.
According to KUAM News (https://www.kuam.com/story/11066230/police-make-several-arrests-throughout-guam), a multimedia outlet in Guam, police arrested Quinit on June 28, 2006 for firing a .45 cal. pistol twice in the air after he got into an argument with another person.
