The Philippine National Police Board of Inquiry (BOI) is reviewing their findings to prepare for the reopening of the Senate investigation on the bloody Mamasapano mission against Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir or “Marwan,” considered the single deadliest police operation in recent history.
BOI chairman Police Director Benjamin Magalong said on Wednesday that the BOI members will go over their findings, including their consultation with the Mamasapano survivors, as they open themselves to the possibility that a new lead will crop up.
“We are now reviewing our documents. Kinalkal namin lahat at institutional memory, titignan namin lahat para pag-aralan ulit para sure na ready na ready kami,” he said in an interview at Camp Crame.
The Senate reconvening for the Mamasapano probe was based on Senator Juan Ponce Enrile’s recommendation to tackle “possibly new evidence” on the incident.
But Magalong said they stand by the content of the 120-page report, stressing the members have risked their career ambitions for a truthful result of their investigation.
“We will be very truthful about it. Wala nang mawawala sa amin. Ako, I’ll be retiring in a year,” he said.
The police official, who now heads the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detection Management, was lauded by many for putting his chances of being promoted in jeopardy, taking politics out of the BOI report.
Aside from Magalong, the BOI is composed of seasoned police officers including Police Director Catalino Rodriguez, who had retired from service, Chief Superintendent John Sosito, Senior Superintendent Robert Po, Senior Superintendent Ronald dela Rosa, Senior Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. and Chief Inspector David Joy Duarte.
