Another suspect in Maguindanao massacre nabbed in General Santos

MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) Another suspect in the brutal 2009 massacre in Maguindanao of 57 persons, including at least 30 journalists, fell into the hands of authorities in General Santos City on Friday, police said.

Kamper Silongan, alias Jun, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. at the Queen Tuna Park in General Santos City, said Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

His arrest brought to 90 the number of suspects arrested while 105 others are still being hunted down, Cruz said.

Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group deputy and commander of the Special Investigation Task Group-Maguindanao, said the arrest was made on the strength of a warrant issued by Quezon City Judge Jocelyn A. Solis of Regional Trial Court Branch 221.

Silongan, who had a P250,000 bounty, was wanted on 57 counts of murder, along with almost 200 other accused.

Fifty-seven people, including 32 journalists, were murdered on November 23, 2009 by more than a hundred armed men allegedly working for the Ampatuan clan.

Former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr, his sons Andal Jr. and Zaldy Ampatuan, the former governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, were arrested and are being tried for the massacre.
