Cops hunt down man for stabbing to death girlfriend in Southern Leyte

MAASIN CITY—Police operatives are hunting down a man who stabbed to death his girlfriend in front of her students at a remote village of Maasin City in Southern Leyte last Monday afternoon.

Jonathan Jualo Fernandez, 30, went to Barangay (village) Libertad where his longtime girlfriend, Angelica Batistil Miole, 23, was teaching in a multi-level elementary school.

The police said the suspect allegedly summoned the victim outside her classroom to talk to her about their relationship.

However, when Miole stepped out of the room, he stabbed her several times. The victim’s students saw what happened because they followed their teacher. The crime scene was just about 15 meters from the school building.

Miole bore 22 stab wounds from the different parts of the body—seven of these were fatal.

The police found at the crime scene a new kitchen knife and a receipt from a store where the weapon had just been purchased.

The suspect immediately sped off on a borrowed motorcycle after stabbing to death the victim.

About 400 meters from the school, the motorcycle was found with broken front wheel.

Fernandez’s drinking buddies told police that they heard the suspect saying “he would better kill her rather than she would be [with] another man.”

The victim’s parents said Miole has reportedly rejected her boyfriend’s marriage proposal because she needed to support her sisters’ education. RAM
