Metro Briefs: Parañaque hiring 100 traffic men

WITH traffic expected to grow heavier next month as work starts on the C5 Link Expressway project in Parañaque City, the local government announced on Monday that it would hire 100 additional enforcers to man the flow of vehicles on major roads.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the new-hires would augment the city’s current force of 80 traffic enforcers. City administrator Fernando Soriano said the applicants should have completed at least two years of college and be willing to work in shifts.

“Those who will be hired will undergo proper traffic management training,” he added. Expected to be affected by the project are residents and motorists using the roads near Moonwalk and Merville Villages, including Andrews Avenue, Airport Road and Sucat Road.

Olivarez said the first phase of the 7.6-kilometer project, which will connect C5 to the Cavite Expressway, received a notice to proceed from the Toll Regulatory Board in December. After a groundbreaking ceremony this month, construction will commence in February, he added. Maricar B. Brizuela

THE TAXI driver who killed his father last year surrendered to the police on Sunday night. Charvie dela Ysla, 30, would be charged with parricide in the city prosecutor’s office, according to homicide investigator SPO2 Jonathan Bautista.

The suspect admitted killing his father Carlito on Nov. 13 as he and his girlfriend were having an argument. “The father told him to stop fighting with the girl but he did not listen.

Instead, he told the dad not to meddle because he was not hitting his girlfriend anyway,” Bautista said. Irked, the victim punched his son several times while the suspect grabbed a knife and stabbed his father in the chest before escaping. Aie Balagtas See
