LOBOC, Bohol — A 42-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant, was shot dead by two men riding a motorcycle in Barangay Quinoguitan, Loboc town, on Saturday.
Edna Quiao, a manicurist, was shot in the belly and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City, at least 24 km from Loboc.
According to PO3 Mark Sabaña, Quiao and her 12-year-old daughter Liza Mae watched the performance of Loboc’s “Suroy Musikero” in Sitio Busai, Barangay Quinoguitan.
When the performance ended at 5:30 p.m., the mother and daughter started walking home when they were waylaid by two men on board a motorcycle.
According to Sabaña, the men asked Quaio if she knew the name of the barangay captain of Quinoguitan.
After Quiao answered them, the passenger of the motorcycle shot the victim several times before the two drove off toward Bilar town.
When responding police arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground and called for an ambulance that brought her to Tagbilaran hospital. She and the baby didn’t make it.
The unborn baby was supposedly the 10th child of Quiao, police said.
Husband Guillermo Quiao, 43, said that he could barely stand the pain but had to be strong for their children.
“I want justice for my wife,” said Guillermo.  Police investigator Eigen YecYec said they were still investigating what was the motive behind killing Quiao.
“So far, we don’t have a suspect. But we are looking on the possibility that it was a case of mistaken identity,” said YecYec. He also said that the Quiaos had no known enemy in the town.
