The Philippine Army has accused that the New People’s Army (NPA) violated their holiday ceasefire when the latter attacked government forces in Goa, Camarines Sur on New Year’s Day.

In a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM, the army said eight members of its 83rd Infantry Battalion and six Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit members of the 22nd Infantry Battalion had been attacked by no less than ten alleged NPA members on Friday.
Col. Claudio Yucot of the 90st Infantry Brigade said his troop was conducting a “New Year’s visit” when the attack happened.
No injuries on the side government forces were reported. However, alleged members of the rebel group were able to escape.
Yucot said they recovered an M14 rifle, AK50 rifle, two hand grenades, bandoleers with assorted magazines and ammunitions at the scene after the clash.
Because of the ceasefire, Yucot said he did not order a pursuit operation against the NPA.
