Firemen spent the first hours of 2016 battling fires that broke out in at least four places in Metro Manila.
In Manila, over 2,000 families were affected by a fire that hit Barangays 155 and 160 in Dagupan Extension in Tondo, Manila.
Bureau of Fire Protection Chief, Director Ariel Barayuga said initial information showed that about 1,000 houses were affected in Tondo.
A wayward firecracker caused the blaze, said Barayuga.
The fire was declared under control at 6:10 a.m.
Meanwhile, a fire that reached the third alarm hit a residential area along MacArthur Highway in Valenzuela City. It was declared fire out at 6:58 a.m.
Estimated damage was placed at P2 million.
Also, fires broke out in several places in Quezon City, including in Baesa and Barangay Krus na Ligas.
