DAUIS, Bohol, Philippines — A woman hammered her husband and slit his throat in front of their three shocked children early Sunday. A day later, she was found dead in an apparent suicide.
SPO4 Ramon Rulona, deputy chief of the Dauis Police Station, said Edgar Cinconiegue, 42, was killed by his wife, Anecita, 37, a housewife, using a “maso” (hammer) early morning of Sunday.
Rulona said Edgar worked as a disc jockey at the Club Atmosphere in Tagbilaran City, at least 12 kilometers from his home in Barangay Tinago, Dauis. He also worked as tricycle driver.
Investigation showed that while Edgar was sleeping, Anecita smashed his head with a hammer and slit his neck with the use of a 12-inch kitchen knife.
Rulona said that the gruesome killing was witnessed by the couple’s three kids aged 14, 13 and 11 who ran for help.
The whole neighborhood was alarmed and immediately sought police assistance.
When the police and relatives of the Cinconiegues broke into their home, they found Edgar inside the bedroom covered in blood. They could not find Anecita who ran to a grassy area, about 50 meters away from the house.
On Monday evening, Anecita was found lifeless by a resident. She had a cut on her left wrist and elbow. A knife recovered at the scene was believed to have been used by Anecita in slicing her husband’s throat and in killing herself.
Rulona said that relatives confirmed that Anecita had been suffering from mental illness.
“They had planned to bring her to the hospital before the killing happened,” said Rulona.
The three children who witnessed the killing would undergo stress debriefing by the local Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), said Rulona.
The policeman said this was the worst crime ever to happen in Dauis, as far as he could remember. SFM
