Manhunt operation launched against Bilibid escapee

A manhunt operation has been ordered against a convicted murderer who escaped the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) last Sunday.

NBP Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf said they have already coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP) as well as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to help track inmate Reynaldo Fuentes Avergonzado.

Avergonzado was believed to have escaped using a rake tied with a rope to scale the prison wall.

Schwarzkopf, in a phone interview, added that the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) also has a separate tracking team searching for the inmate.

Avergonzado, who hails from Bohol, has been with the NBP since 2009. Prior to the NBP, while he was detained at the Bohol Provincial Jail, he also managed to escape but was recaptured.
