LUCENA CITY – Three Bicol-bound travelers were hurt when their car slammed into a tree and careened down a 10-foot ravine in Tagkawayan, Quezon province, early Tuesday.
Senior Inspector Reynaldo Reyes, Tagkawayan police chief, said a Honda City sedan (RAM 156) was traveling along the Quirino Highway in Barangay (village) Rizal when it hit the tree on the side of the road at about 6 a.m.
The impact caused the vehicle to fall into the ravine, he said.
Reyes said the car’s occupants were injured and were rushed to the Ma. Lourdes District Hospital in the town proper, some four kilometers away.
Police have yet to identify the driver but the passengers were Mark Anthony Lanzuela and Esmer de la Peña.
Another accident also happened along the Tagkawayan section of the Quirino Highway, the main road link to Bicol, before Christmas day.
On Dec. 21, a passenger bus from Albay bound for Metro Manila also fell into a ravine in Barangay San Vicente. Some 55 passengers were hurt.
