Passengers at ports nationwide down to 24,700 — Coast Guard

The number of passengers in ports nationwide has gone down by more than half to about 24, 700, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Sunday morning.

From 74,576 as of 6 p.m. on Dec. 26, the number of people waiting to board ships and other sea vessels was down to 24,704 as of 6 a.m. Sunday, the PCG reported.

Early this month, PCG activated “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe” and placed all its units under heightened alert for the increase in volume of passengers during the holidays.

Its entire fleet, which includes sea and air assets, was ordered to be ready to respond to maritime emergencies.
