Fire hits Boracay, guts 40 houses
ILOILO CITY – A large fire destroyed or damaged about 40 houses and stores on Boracay Island a day before Christmas.
No casualties were reported in the fire that hit a residential area along the island’s main road in Sitio Ambulong in Barangay Manoc-Manoc.
The fire started at about 10:30 a.m. and put under control by firefighters at 1:05 p.m. It was put out at 2:45 p.m., according to Fire Officer 3 Cirilo Gerochi, arson investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Boracay. The cost of damage was placed at about P10 million.
The cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated.
Last June, about 100 houses and stalls were also burned in a fire in the same village.
