Scavenger stabbed dead by drinking buddy
MANILA, Philippines—A 34-year-old scavenger was stabbed dead Thursday night allegedly by a friend with whom he had an argument during a drinking binge that night in Tondo, Manila.
Domingo Almenar, of Barangay 105 Sitio Damayan Tambakan, Road 10 in Tondo, suffered multiple stabbed wounds and was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Hospital.
Almenar’s alleged attacker, who was only identified by his alias Alvin, fled after the assault and is the subject of a police hunt.
PO2 Bernardo Cayabyab of the Manila Police District homicide section, said that the incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. along an alley in Sitio Damayan Tambakan.
Cayabyab revealed that before the incident, Almenar and Alvin were in a drinking session near his home.
The case investigator pointed out that in the middle of their binge, the two had a “drunken discussion” turned into an argument.
Alvin allegedly pulled out a knife from his waist with which he stabbed his drinking buddy. Almenar was able to dodge a second thrust and tried to run but slipped and fell.
Cayabyab said that Alvin caught up with Almenar, sat on him and repeatedly stabbed. When the victim lay bloodied and motionless on the ground, Alvin fled.
Neighbors immediately brought the badly wounded scavenger to the nearest hospital to try to save him but the effort proved futile.
MPD homicide section investigators are conducting follow-up operations for the arrest of the suspect in the killing. (With Monalisa Chuang, Inquirer Intern)
