Woman killed in Iloilo City Fire; at least 15 houses destroyed
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A 36-year-old woman was killed in a fire that destroyed more than 15 houses past 3 p.m. on Monday in an urban poor area at Zone 6, Boulevard, Molo District, Iloilo City.
The fatality was identified by her family as Marisa Palomera-Marbais.
“She was probably trapped and suffocated when she tried to escape,” said Iloilo City Fire Marshall, Supt. Jerry Candido.
The fire started from the house of someone identified only as Pedro and immediately spread to the nearby houses, which were made of light materials.
The cause of fire was unknown. More than 100 affected individuals are now housed at the barangay chapel and are attended to by city social welfare and development office.
The fire came as the city fire was having a mopping up operations at the Longwin Commercial building on Aldeguer Street here that was gutted down by fire past 10 a.m. on Monday. SFM
