The death toll from Tropical Storm “Nona” (international name Melor) has increased to 35 on Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Council (NDRRMC) said.
As per the NDRRMC, Mimaropa has the highest number of deaths with 13, and then Eastern Visayas with eight, five from Cagayan Valley, four from Calabarzon, and National Capital Region with one.
“Nona” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Dec. 12 as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts up to 80 kph but dumped torrential rains that flooded much of Calabarzon and Mimaropa.
The tropical storm left PAR on Friday.

A total of 168,439 houses were damaged, 44,093 were completely destroyed, while 124,346 were partially damaged.
“Nona” also cost P2,070,034,469.20 in damages with the agriculture sector taking the brunt of the losses with P1,836,065,865.20
As of Sunday, there were 214 flooded areas across Ilocos, Central Luzon, Mimaropa and National Capital Region, where 96 of which have subsided.
NDRRMC said there are 65,318 families or 289,616 persons tucked inside evacuation centers.
