LUCENA CITY – A male passenger of a Manila-bound bus died of heart attack in Sariaya town in Quezon province early this morning, police said.
A St. Rafael Transport Line (AWA 8944) bus from Albay province made an emergency stop along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay (village) Concepcion I of Sariaya at about 2 a.m. after one of its passengers, Eduardo Cardano Bragais, 54, fell unconscious, said Chief Inspector Javier Baasis, public information officer of the Quezon police, in a report.
Quoting Bragais’ wife, Redemia, the victim had complained of chest pain and difficulty in breathing minutes before he lost consciousness.
Bragais was rushed to a hospital in the town proper but was declared dead on arrival.
The physician on duty at the hospital’s emergency room, Dr. Steven Bigtas, said the victim died from cardiac arrest, according to Baasis.
The victim’s wife had told police that her husband previously suffered a stroke and had high blood pressure.
The Bragais couple left Albay for Manila on Saturday afternoon.
