LUCENA CITY—A mother and her two young daughters were killed in a landslide in Real town in the northern part of Quezon province early afternoon on Saturday, police said.
Senior Supt. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Quezon police chief, citing initial report from the Real police, said that at around 1 p.m., an avalanche of soil loosened by continuous rain spawned by Typhoon “Nona” buried four houses in the village of Tanauan.
Ylagan identified the victims as Normita Lastimosa, 34, and her daughters, Joan, 10 and Joylyn, 5.
Another daughter, Josha, survived the landslide and was rushed by rescuers to the nearest hospital.
Aside from the house of Lastimosa, the houses of the Lumabe, Resplandor and Bello families were also buried by the landslide, Ylagan said.
He said the search and rescue operations continued but it had been difficult to bring to the town more search personnel and equipment since the road between Infanta and Real towns had been blocked by thick mud and remained not passable to all types of vehicles.
