A SECURITY guard sustained a gunshot wound when his gun fell to the ground while he was sleeping on duty.
Romnick Morales was brought to Mandaue District Hospital after the incident last Monday night.
Morales of Black Arrow Security Agency allegedly fell asleep while on duty at the Mandaue Central School when the gun holster was detached from his waist and fell to the ground together with his .38 pistol service firearm. The gun fired upon hitting the ground and hit his right arm.
Alfred Garido, a security guard in an establishment across the school, said Morales told him that he would take a nap.
A few moments later, a gunshot rang out.
“When I heard the shot, I hurriedly ran toward him. He asked me to help him as he was hit in the arm. He said he fell asleep when his gun accidentally fired and hit him,” Garido said in Cebuano.
Morales refused to be interviewed while awaiting an investigation by his agency.
PO1 Ariel Gingco of Mandaue City police said Morales has to answer for his negligence./correspondent carine asutilla
