Biado collars overall crown of BSCP nat’l event, receives P200K

CARLO “Cool” Biado emerged overall champion in the inaugural BSCP National Pool Championship, touted as the toughest billiards tournament because the winner is determined through his performance in all three disciplines — 8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball.

The week-long event was held at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City.

Biado of the Bugsy Promotions, anchored his win by snaring the 8-ball crown and finishing second in the 9-ball and 10-ball disciplines. As overall champion, Biado collected P200,000.
Allan Cuartero finished second overall and received P100,000 while Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo went home P50,000 richer for landing in third spot.

Biado lost in the 9-ball finals to Bugsy teammate Orcollo and the 10-ball title to Cuartero. The La Union bet is also a semi-finalist in this year’s World Ten Ball Championships.

Yesterday, Cuartero defeated Biado, 11-2, in the finals of the 10-ball competition to earn an additional P50,000 incentive while Biado pocketed the runner-up prize of P20,000.

Cuartero led the entire 10-ball match and and never let Biado back to the table from 5-0, 5-1 to 11-2 victory.

“Maganda talaga y’ung nilaro ni Allan (Cuartero) at laging pumabor yung latag ng bola sa kanya,” said veteran international campaigner Ramon “Maestro Monching” Mistica.

“Iba talaga pag nakakauna ka tapus alternate break pa ang format,” added Japan-based player Armando “Agila” Cagol.

Meanwhile, Bugsy Promotions head Perry Mariano believes Biado and Cuartero will one day become a legitimate world billiards champion.  /Correspondent Marlon bernardino
