DILG exec shot in Calamba still in critical condition

LUCENA CITY – The regional director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) is fighting for his life after he was shot by still unidentified gunman in Calamba City early on Monday, police said.

A report from the Police Regional Office 4-Public Information Office, said that Renato Brion, 60, remains in critical condition at the Calamba Medical Center hours after he was shot by near his office in the city.

“He is still inside the ICU (intensive care unit),” Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran, PRO4 spokesperson, said in a text message past noon Monday.

Citing reports from Brion’s attending physicians, Gaoiran said the DILG official sustained eight gunshot wounds – two each in the head, neck, body and hand.

“But probably some of it were exit wounds,” she said.

Gaoiran said police investigators have yet to determine the caliber of the hand gun used in the shooting or the motive for the attempt on his life.

Brion has just alighted from his service vehicle and was about to enter the DILG office at Andenson building in Barangay Parian, Calamba City at around 7: 30 p.m. when shot several times.

Gaoiran said witnesses saw two suspects involved in the shooting, one of whom was wearing a white T-shirt and a yellow helmet.

After the shooting, the suspect immediately escaped towards an unknown direction.

Police said Brion arrived at the DILG office with his wife aboard a Toyota Innova (SLC 963) being driven by one Medel Saturno. Both were left unharmed by the suspect.

Calabarzon police operatives are now conducting manhunt operation against the suspect and his possible cohorts.
