Western Visayas Coast Guard suspends, regulates sea travel due to ‘Nona’

ILOILO CITY—The Coast Guard in Western Visayas has suspended and regulated sea travel going to areas expected to be affected by Typhoon “Nona.”

Trips of ships and boats going to northern areas of the country including Batangas, northern Cebu and Manila have been suspended, according to Lieutenant Senior Grade Jomark Angue, Coast Guard Iloilo station commander and spokesperson of the Coast Western Visayas District.

Angue said trips of ferry boats plying between Iloilo and Guimaras and between Caticlan and Boracay Island have also been regulated.

While trips between Iloilo and Guimaras remained normal, emergency boats have been placed on stand by.

Operations of motorboats plying between Caticlan and Boracay Island in Aklan were limited to daytime only. The number of persons on board the motorboats has been limited to 50 percent of its capacity, according to Angue.

The provinces of Aklan and Capiz and northern Negros Occidental are among the areas under Storm Signal No. 1, based on the weather bulletin issued at 5 a.m. Monday by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
