MANILA, Philippines — An alleged drug user stabbed her sleeping two-year-old daughter at the back in Tondo, Manila, Sunday, morning.
The kid survived while her mother was brought to and detained at the Manila Police District station 2, known as Moriones station.
In an interview, Police Officer 1 Wrestlyne Foa-nan of the MPD’S women investigation division said the crime happened about 1:46 a.m. inside their bedroom on Lakandula street.
The 21-year-mother was sleeping beside the baby, and was surrounded by their relatives when she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the child.
The child let out a loud cry that roused her grandmother and other relatives. To their surprise, the saw the baby bathing in a pool of blood.
The mother, meanwhile, stared into space blankly while sitting in a corner of the room.
Foa-nan said the relatives immediately called the barangay to arrest the mother, whom they described as “nagbabaliw-baliwan (acting crazy).”
Police are still investigating what drove the mother to stab her child, although drug abuse is suspected. She could not be interviewed, as of this writing. SFM
