Robber killed in shootout; depositor’s cash recovered
ILOILO CITY, Philippines – One of two robbers, who held up a bank depositor here, was shot dead by responding policemen Friday morning, authorities said.
Chief Superintendent Cipriano Querol Jr., Western Visayas police director, said the still unidentified assailant was gunned down by members of the Iloilo City Police Office in a brief firefight around 9:30 a.m. in front of the Metrobank branch along Simeon Ledesma Street in Jaro district here.
The other suspect fled during the firefight, Querol said citing initial reports.
The robbers held up Rodelyn Umadhay, a cashier of the Truecash Lending company, who was about to enter the bank to deposit cash.
The police recovered a .38 caliber pistol and P76,000 cash from the slain suspect.
