Senatorial candidate Martin Romualdez is urging President Aquino to show some compassion to traffic-weary commuters and motorists by firing insensitive officials responsible for the daily gridlock in city roads.

The Leyte lawmaker questioned why the President has allowed the public to suffer without any of his traffic officials being made to take responsibility for this daily burden.
“The public is at the receiving end of the government’s incompetence. President Aquino has always referred to the people as his bosses. Why should the bosses be made to suffer?” Romualdez said.

Romualdez said that while there hasn’t been a shortage of agencies managing the traffic—from the Metro Manila Development Authority to the Land Transportation Office to the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group—the situation has worsened rather than improved.
He said the government should stop blaming road reblocking projects and road closures as well as the big volume of vehicles and undisciplined drivers and commuters for the problem, and instead look at the people it has assigned to fix the problem.
“The finger-pointing should stop and those responsible should be singled out, and a dialogue should be held with all stakeholders in attendance as soon as possible,” Romualdez said.
