Presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano as his running mate—not Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.—and that’s that, his campaign manager insisted yesterday.
Mayor Leoncio Evasco of Maribojoc town in Bohol province, expressed alarm over recurring claims that Duterte has two vice presidential candidates in the upcoming elections in May.
“Duterte has made his choice and it’s Cayetano. We do not have control over those who would claim otherwise, but it’s Cayetano only.” Evasco said.
Despite denials, the issue of two Vice Presidents for Duterte came up again when supporters of Cayetano and Marcos showed up at the Commission on Elections on Tuesday when Duterte appeared to reaffirm his certificate of candidacy.
“We have a solid Duterte-Cayetano tandem. So I urge all our supporters to go all-out in pushing their candidacies. Let us not listen to those who are trying hard to sow intrigue,” Evasco told the Inquirer.
Evasco declined to name those pushing for Marcos. “As far as we know, on the campaign trail we will have only one Vice President,’” said Evasco, a former priest who has been Duterte’s campaign manager since 1988 when he first entered politics in Davao. Nancy C. Carvajal
