PARIS, France — One of this year’s biggest global conferences is unfolding in this city.

And all eyes are on Le Bourget, France’s oldest airport and the venue of the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) where ministers of different nations are working together to come up with a legally binding agreement to address climate change.

The 18-hectare Le Bourget, where aviator Charles Lindbergh in 1927 finally landed after making the world’s first solo flight across the Atlantic, now houses several halls catering to government negotiators, media and civil society groups.

Every day until the end of the week, around 40,000 people mill around the convention center to attend meetings, press conference and protest actions. Its press center alone can accommodate 3,000 people while 32 rooms have been allocated for the negotiations.

It also features climate-related installations and environment-friendly features.

The Philippine delegation is hoping that the final agreement would recognize the effects of climate change on fundamental human rights and seek to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius (instead of two degrees Celsius) below pre-industrial levels.
