MANILA, Philippines— Rolito Go, who was convicted for the death of a college student in a road rage fit in 1991, admitted he is allowed to go out of prison, but only for medical reasons.

In an exclusive interview by Radyo Inquirer’s Chona Yu, Go said he was given a permit by the Department of Justice (DoJ) and Department of Health (DoH) last year to seek medical treatment outside the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP).
Go is suffering from colon cancer.
“My schedule to go out of the NBP compound depends upon my medication and chemotherapy schedule…sometimes I go out six times a month,” Go said. He explained that once the DoJ granted the permit, the passes for his trips outside the prison facility is being issued by the superintendent.
“Last year, I go out almost every day for my radiation and chemotherapy sessions,” Go said but added that he does not go anywhere except the hospital.
“I am too weak to go elsewhere after every session,” Go said.
Go, who has been in prison for 18 years is already a “living out prisoner.” A “living out prisoner” are those with serving a minimum penalty of less than six years, those who are sick or is over 70 years old.
Go lives at a hut at the back of Ina Ng Awa Parish within the NBP’s reservation camp. His hut is near that of the huts previously occupied by Romeo Jalosjos and Claudio Teehankee Jr.
He said after the issue of Antonio Leviste and the anomalies inside the prison facility, rules have become stricter. Go said he will submit his application to go out of prison on Monday for medical treatment.
