A priest and executive director of Caritas Manila hit presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte saying the mayor should not involve Caritas Davao in his attempt to regulate himself from cursing in public.
In a statement, Rev. Fr. Anton CT. Pascual said that Duterte should exercise self-control to prevent himself from cursing.
Pascual said that Duterte’s cursing shows his “unworthiness” to lead the nation as its president.
“Hindi dapat siya nagmumura dahil presidency is about character. At mukhang hindi yata magandang halimbawa na ang isang presidente o presidentiable ay nagmumura. Puwede namang hindi niya gawin ‘yun, dapat niyang tigilan ‘yun at kailangan niya ng self-control,” Pascual said.
(He should not be swearing in public because presidency is about character. A president or a presidentiable who swears in public is not a good role model. He could not have done that. He should stop swearing and he needs to have self-control.)
Duterte came under fire after he cursed at Pope Francis during the proclamation event of PDP-Laban last November 30. He subsequently denied his slur against the Pope, saying that he was cursing government incompetence.

The feisty mayor then had a closed-door meeting with Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles and Bishop George Rimando where he said that he was lectured about Christian values.
As a result of the conversation, Duterte then vowed to lessen his use of cuss words, adding that he will donate P1,000 to Caritas Davao for each cuss word he utters. CDG
