Inspector Dennis Tano, Tubod police chief, said Arnold Fantonial Alfafara—who initially fled after hacking to death teacher Roselyn Longcob Talabor around 7:45 a.m.—yielded to police authorities amid a pursuit operation mounted against him.

Leoncio Bagul, a village official, said Alfafara surrendered after hours of negotiation at the house of a relative.

Tano said the suspect was taken into police custody and was now being held at the Tubod municipal jail.

He added that charges had already been filed against the suspect.

It was learned that the incident started when the wife of the suspect—Mariza—sought refuge at the school after fleeing her husband’s temper.

When she learned that Alfafara pursued her at the school, she asked Talabor—her close friend—to help.

However, when Alfafara saw Talabor, 49, he pursued the teacher as well.

Talabor, who was in her girl scout uniform, ran but her mobility was hampered by the high-heeled shoes she wore.

When she stumbled, the suspect repeatedly hit her with a machete in full view of the pupils, Tano said.

He then fled, leaving the Grade II teacher bloodied and dying.

Education officials said the incident was shocking and that the pupils were traumatized as well.
