MANILA, Philippines — “Be aware of transactions done online and offline.”
This was the advice of the head of the National Capital Region Police Office to the public days before the holidays.
In a statement on Thursday, NCRPO Director Joel Pagdilao said the public should be “mindful” of what they purchase in time for Christmas both via the Internet and personally.
Buyers should beware of products sold at low prices, according to Pagdilao.
“Please be reminded that purchase of stolen items may lead buyers to face charges in violation of PD 1612 (Anti-Fencing Law) referring to a crime that in many ways accompanies crime against property. It happens when a person buys, sells, accepts, keeps, conceals, acquires or in any manner disposes of something that he knows or should know is stolen,” Pagdilao said.
He added the public should be “vigilant” at all times, noting that historically, crime rates of robbery and theft increased during this season.
“Bring just enough money to spend and plan your shopping time to avoid the Christmas rush,” he said.
“The NCRPO is appealing for the public to help authorities by abiding by the prevailing laws,” Pagdilao added.
He said for their part, the NCRPO would be “on guard” to ensure the public’s safety.
