Brother and sister-in-law of Basilan Gov. Akbar shot dead
MANILA, Philippines—Motorcycle-riding suspects shot and killed the younger brother and sister-in-law of Basilan Governor Jum Akbar Monday night in Isabela City, Basilan, police said Tuesday.
Isabela City police chief Superintendent Alan Nazarro said that Engineer Basser Jainuddin and his wife, village chairperson Amina, were shot to death in front of Basilan State College in Barangay (village) Sumagdang, Isabela City, Basilan at around 7:05 p.m.
Jainuddin died on the spot while his wife was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician at the Infante Hospital.
Both victims died after sustaining several gunshot wounds on their bodies, said Nazarro.
The couple were on board a motorcycle and were making their way home from the city proper when the suspects attacked them.
An investigation to determine the identities and motive of the suspects was underway, police said.
