A MEMBER of the Abu Sayyaf terror group was arrested on Saturday afternoon at the hospital he was confined in in Jolo, Sulu.
Kadaffy Kamsa was taken into custody by police and military operatives at 5:20 p.m. at the Sulu Provincial Hospital where he was recuperating from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident.
Two other Abu Sayyaf members confined at the same hospital for injuries suffered in the same accident managed to evade arrest by slipping out of the facility.
Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, said Kamsa was a member of the notorious terror and kidnap group who took part in several abductions in Tawi-Tawi province as well as in Malaysia.
The arrest came about after the authorities were tipped off to the presence of the three Abu Sayyaf members at the hospital.
The vehicle the three were riding in had collided with another vehicle in Old Panamao town in Sulu.
“These are the men utilized by subleaders Alhabsy Misaya and Angah Adji in kidnappings in Sabah, Malaysia,” Arrojado said.
Kamsa was taken into custody but remains at the hospital where he is being guarded by policemen.
He has been charged with illegal possession of firearms and reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injury for the accident he was involved in.
Arrojado said military units had been alerted to possible retaliatory acts by the Abu Sayyaf as a result of the arrest, specifically against government troops and installations.
Kamsa’s arrest occurred a day after another Abu Sayyaf member, Saddam Jailani, was arrested at the port of Jolo.
