Comelec defends ‘no bio, no boto’

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday defended its “No Bio, No Boto” policy after a coalition of youth groups questioned its constitutionality before the Supreme Court (SC).

Comelec Chair Andres Bautista, in a press briefing, said the poll agency is just implementing provisions of the Republic Act No. 10367 in terms of deactivating the registration records of those without biometrics data.

On Wednesday, the Kabataan party-list filed a petition at the SC asking the latter to declare the “No Bio, No Boto” policy of the Comelec as unconstitutional as it will disenfranchise millions of voters come Election Day. Tina G. Santos
