MANILA, Philippines – An explosion rocked the residential compound of a local government official in Isabela before dawn Tuesday, police said.
Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr, Philippine National Police spokesman, said that there was an explosion at Mayor Laurencio Zuniega compound in Magsaysay village, Cordon town, Isabela at around 3:30 a.m.
No one was hurt in the blast but Zuniega’s home, Toyota Hilux and Toyota Grandia were damaged, said Senior Police Officer 1 Jerry Santiago of Cordon police.
Santiago said that Zuniega, his family and several of his helpers were inside one of the houses in the compound when a fragmentation grenade was thrown inside the compound.
Santiago said that some of the mayor’s neighbors recalled hearing a motorcycle drive by before the blast.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the explosion, police said. Matikas Santos, INQUIRER.net
