BACOLOD CITY—Search and rescue operations for a Polish trekker and her guide come to an end as the two have been located and are to descend from Mt. Kanlaon, said Dennis Pinosa, Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park Protected Areas superintendent.
Polish Ana Hodson, who is in her 40s and is described an expert climber, and trained guide Valmer Villar were expected to be in Barangay Pintubdan, La Carlota town, at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Trekking has been banned at Mt. Kanlaon as the volcano continues to exhibit seismic activities.

Kanlaon Volcano’s seismic monitoring network recorded 11 volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
There was moderate emission of dirty white steam and ash plumes that rose up to 150 meters above the summit crater before drifting to the southwest.
Alert Level 1 status still prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, which means that it is in abnormal condition and is in a period of current unrest, the Phivolcs said.
The local government units and the public are reminded that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, it said.
Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as airborne ash from a sudden eruption can be hazardous to aircraft, Phivolcs reiterated. CDG
