MANILA Zoo’s canteen caught fire on Tuesday night.
Initial investigation showed that no one was hurt and the animals were safe, said Superintendent Jaime Ramirez, the city fire marshal.
The blaze broke out at 9:47 p.m. at the canteen located inside the zoo’s compound. It was placed under second alarm, meaning 10 fire trucks responded to the site, before a fire out was declared at 10:12 p.m.
Ramirez said probers have yet to determine what caused the fire.
Damage to property was placed at about P50,000.
Manila Zoo, which was opened in 1969, is home to about a thousand animals from 90 species. With a report from Aries J. Hegina
