Typhoon ‘Marilyn’ weakens, slows down

TYPHOON Marilyn, expected to affect the Northern Luzon, has weakened and slowed down as of 11am Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The eye of Typhoon “Marilyn” (international name: In-fa) is already at 1095 km east of Baler, Aurora bringing in cold winds in the extreme Northern parts of Luzon.

It has maximum sustained winds of 150kph and gustiness of up to 185kph, and is moving northwest at 13kph.

According to Pagasa weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio, “Marilyn” is projected not to make landfall in any part of the Philippines, but will enhance Amihan in the extreme Northern Luzon. Expect also light to moderate rains in the eastern section, he added.

By Tuesday, typhoon Marilyn has already moved to 1005km east of Tuguegarao, Cagayan; then to Calayan Island on Wednesday and then to Batanes.  The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday, Aurelio said.

There will be light to moderate rains in Luzon and Visayas as typhoon Marilyn exits on Friday, he added.

Pagasa has not raised any storm warning signal yet.

Marilyn is nothing like Typhoon Lando which devastated the Northern parts of Luzon, Aurelio added.

Fisherfolks, however, are advised not to venture out over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and over the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
