Typhoon “Marilyn” (international name: In-Fa) slowed and slightly weakened early Monday, the state weather bureau said.
The typhoon packed maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour near the center with gusts of up to 195 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
It moved west northwest at 20 kph and was last observed 915 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 1,175 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora.
Benison Estareja of Pagasa said Marilyn won’t make landfall and was too far to affect the country. By Monday evening, it would recurve towards Northern Pacific Ocean, he added.
A gale warning was issued, however, over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of the Visayas.
Meanwhile, an intertropical convergence zone is affecting Mindanao.
Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over eastern and central Visayas, and the SOCCSKSARGEN and Davao regions, Pagasa said. Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rain is expected over the Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan group of islands.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
