CITY OF MALOLOS, Philippines—Actor Philip Salvador was officially declared a resident and new voter of Marilao town by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Oct. 9.
But this did not sit well with his town neighbors, who have contested Salvador’s registration as a new voter there.
Perlita Panes, Domingo Lukban, Teodoro Toring, Rogelio Gervas, Cesar Cuenca and Benigno Villaruel, all residents of different villages in Marilao, questioned the actor’s residency record.
Salvador registered as a voter of Precinct No. 0275D in Barangay Santa Rosa.
Before he was accepted as a new Marilao voter, Salvador was declared a deactivated voter of Mandaluyong City in Metro Manila.
But the petitioners argued that Salvador had not lived in the town for at least six months as required by election laws. He had not been seen in the Sta. Rosa neighborhood, they claimed.
In 2013, Salvador was disqualified as a registered voter in Pandi town when he aspired for the province’s vice gubernatorial post against Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando.
Comelec officials ruled against Salvador after it was proven that the house where he claimed to have lived was still being constructed.
Deo Danao, Marilao election officer, could not be reached for comment on Saturday.
The Inquirer learned that Salvador might run for vice governor as a substitute candidate.
