THIRD year mass communication students of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu held an outreach program in barangay Sawang Calero in Cebu City last Oct. 1.

Liezel Alfonso from Christ for Asia, a social institution for streetchildren, discussed the importance of values.

Students talked with the youths in one-on-one encounters .

Dr. Belinda Espiritu, Development Communication adviser, said the activity was a venue for students to apply principles learned in class and to contribute to the development of the youth.

“I had fun. I also learned about the value of hardwork,” said 11-year-old Jubileean Rodriguez.

The students said they enjoyed the activity and felt a sense of fulfillment .

Hector Paolo Diango, project head, said he was proud of the program and hoped it helped keep the youth away from illegal drugs.

“I am happy to impart knowledge to the youth who need our attention. Seeing them happy also makes me happy”, said Jonna Mahinay, another UP student. /UP Cebu Masscom student Liezyl Anne Gomez
