Today, Nov. 20, is the 100th birth anniversary of former Chief Justice Felix V. Makasiar. He finished law at the University of the Philippines in 1939 and passed the bar exam that  same year. He became justice secretary in February 1970 and, six months later, an associate justice of the Supreme Court. He was appointed Chief Justice but held the post for just over three months before he reached the compulsory retirement age on Nov. 20, 1985. Makasiar died on Feb. 19, 1992, at the age of 76.
