To boost the morale of lawmen securing the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit, top police officials visited anti-riot cops on third day of their deployment on the Apec week.
Philippine National Police chief Director General Ricardo Marquez and head of the Directorate for Logistics Police Director Juanito Vaño personally checked the situation of policemen on the ground, particularly those deployed to anti-Apec rallies.
The officials visited police at the Baclaran Church where lumads were camped out in protest of alleged exploitation of indigenous peoples.
Anti-riot police positioned outside the church in Parañaque City guarded against militants and lumads waiting for a chance to march against Apec.
Thousands of lawmen, police and military trainees from Metro Manila and various regions have been fielded to provide security for the meeting of economic leaders and foreign delegates.
During their visit, Marquez and Vaño asked the troopers if they were receiving food rations on time and if they were all given rain coats and towels.
Marquez also visited policemen along Roxas Boulevard near World Trade Center, UN Avenue, Ocampo Street, F.B. Harrison, and Gil Puyat (formerly Buendia) Avenue.
