A RESIDENT of Taguig City has petitioned the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to cancel Sen. Pia Cayetano’s certificate of candidacy (COC) for her congressional bid in the second district of Taguig City in the May 2016 polls.
In her 10-page petition, Donna Sionomio, a resident of Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, asked the Comelec to cancel or deny due course the COC of Cayetano.
Seeking to disqualify the senator from the certified list of candidates, Sionomio accused Cayetano of “material misrepresentation” on her residency.
The petitioner said that Cayetano claimed in her COC that her period of residence in a condominium unit at Two Serendra, 11th Avenue, Fort Bonifacio up to the day before the May 9, 2016 elections is one year and one week and that she is a registered voter of Barangay Fort Bonifacio.
Citing information apparently available from the senator’s office, Sionomio said in her petition that Cayetano is actually a resident of Agno Street, Ayala Alabang Village in Muntinlupa City.
The condominium unit that Cayetano wrote in her COC as her residence belongs to her brother, incumbent Taguig City 2nd District Representative Lino Cayetano,” Sionomio added.
She claimed that as of July 20, 2015, Cayetano was still a registered voter of Precinct No. 145A, Bagumbayan, which falls under Taguig City’s first district.
“Further verification from the Office of the Election Officer will confirm that as of July 6, 2015, respondent Cayetano has not applied for transfer of registration as a voter of Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City,” she said.
