LUCENA CITY—Police arrested Friday morning the alleged gunman behind the slay try against a mayoralty candidate in General Nakar, Quezon.
Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Quezon police chief, said lawmen nabbed Danilo Lucero in Barangay (village) Kiloloron in Real town, a 30-minute ride to General Nakar in the northern part of the province.

Ylagan said Lucero was believed to be a hired gun responsible for the assassination attempt last October 30 on Eliseo Rozul, 58, the National Unity Party mayoral candidate and brother of outgoing Mayor Leovigildo Rozul.
Eliseo was ambushed and wounded by a lone assailant as he was driving a Nissan Safari utility vehicle in Barangay Magsikap in General Nakar.
The suspect did not resist arrest and yielded one homemade .38 caliber revolver with five live ammunitions when arrested near the vicinity of a beach resort at around 5:30 a.m., Ylagan said. RAM
