Signal No. 1 raised over Southern Leyte, several northern Mindanao provinces

MANILA, Philippines—Signal No. 1 has been raised over Southern Leyte and several northern Mindanao provinces as Tropical Depression “Ramon” accelerates and moves in a west northwest direction, the state-run weather bureau said late Monday.

Aside from Southern Leyte in the Visayas, Signal No. 1 was also hoisted over Surigao Del Norte including Siargao Island, Surigao Del Sur, Agusan Del Norte, northern Agusan Del Sur and the Dinagat Group of Islands.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that as of 10 p.m., the center of Ramon was estimated at 440 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

It was sustaining maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and was forecast to move at 17 kph.

Ramon is expected to be at 130 km southwest of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur by Tuesday evening and at 60 km north of Cebu City by Wednesday night, Pagasa said.

By Thursday evening, it will be at 60 km northwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, it added.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
