Philippine Internet pioneer James Romulo “Jim” Ayson passed away on Monday night from a heart attack. He was 53.

On a Facebook post on Tuesday, Chette Soriano Ayson confirmed the news.

“My husband, my best friend and love of my life Jim Ayson joined our creator last night. There are no details yet about his arrangements. I’ll let everyone know as soon as I’ve sorted it all out. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers,” she wrote.

On his LinkedIn account, Ayson had listed his position as head of Smart Communications’ Internet and Media Partnerships.

He also created PhilMusic.com, the country’s longest-running music website. Ayson had also been an active blogger through “The Ayson Chronicles” (jimayson.wordpress.com), where he discussed various matters, from technology to social issues.
